9:30 AM Choir
Our 9:30am Mass choir is made up of dedicated singers of all ages and backgrounds. We sing choral arrangements of the Sunday hymns. We also work on special choral pieces to be used at Mass and other special occasions. The music for this Mass is consistently in English. This group consists of sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.
The choir practices from 7:00-8:30pm every Thursday evening in the choir loft. It is a lively group of very friendly people who would love to welcome you to our group!
11:30 AM Schola Cantorum
The 11:30am Mass has a schola cantorum. This is a very traditional choir that sings the Ordinary and Propers of the Mass in Latin. This group also works on sacred polyphony to sing at Mass as well. They read most of their music in traditional chant notation. While the music is rather challenging because of the language, it is very prayerful and we have lots of fun.
The schola practices every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00 pm in the choir loft.
5:00 PM Vigil and 8:00 AM Mass
We have cantors lead the Mass parts and hymns at these two Masses. If you find that you would like to share your musical talents with us and one of these two Mass times is more suitable for you, then we would love to have you join the cantor in the choir loft. The practice for these two Masses is included in the Thursday, 7:00-8:30pm rehearsal.
No one is ever forced to sing from the Ambo. This is an option given to the cantors. You can make yourself comfortable upstairs out of view.
Instrumentalists
We are very fortunate at St. Thomas to have an excellent group of instrumentalists who compliment our choirs. We are always looking for people to add their musical talents with instruments. We have violin, flute, clarinet and sometimes trombone. We welcome anyone who plays an orchestral instrument.
Vox Clara
Vox Clara is the youth choir at St. Thomas. Children ages 9-13 may join. They combine with the Pacific Crest Academy choir to sing the first Sunday of the month at 9:30am. The children are expected to learn the hymns, Mass parts and other choral pieces suited for their age. In addition, they are required to learn traditional Latin hymns and certain Latin Ordinary Mass parts.\Home school children in the choir are invited to sing at noon Mass, Fridays during the school year with the PCA students.
Vox Clara practices on Wednesdays from 1:45-3:00pm in the choir loft.
Special Occasions
All of the singers from each of the Masses combine to sing for special Masses and concerts. We provide music for all Holy Day of Obligation Masses and any additional liturgical event. It is quite exciting to come together for such functions.
All of the musicians participate in the annual Epiphany Festival by performing in a special concert. Each choir performs several pieces; all singers and instrumentalists are encouraged to perform either as soloists or in small groups.
We also have occasion to bring in specialists to work with our choirs. It gives us an extra opportunity to bond, learn and express our love for Christ through our work and practice.
